Whew, this week has been pretty busy with a lot of sessions and keeping up with the RPG world.  It’s my last week off from work, so I’ll be back to work on Monday.  Sadly, that means less time for RPG fun.  Anyway, enough real life stuff… let’s get to the good stuff!

Some of you might be aware of the drama behind Kickstarter, ZineQuest, and blockchain.  If not, then you can click on few links below to catch up on this issue:

Kickstarter's ZineQuest Announcement

Kickstarter Blockchain Announcement

Those three links should give you a good starting place to understand what’s been happening.  I am not going to get in details relating to this as I want to focus on Zine Month 2022.  I’m absolutely excited about this initiative!

Why you ask? Many people, who are part of the indie TTRPG scene, will tell you how supportive and wonderful this scene can be.  The Kickstarter drama make a lot of us confused, concerned, and upset.  However, it will not stop us from finding an alternative.  That alternative is Zine Month 2022, established by Feral Indie Studio, and it is growing fast!  Check out the website:

Zine Month 2022

I will just copy and paste their goals:

Education: provide information about where creators can host their zine, from pre-order sites, digital distributors, or crowdfunding platforms. First-time creators will have information on the pros and cons of various platforms while seasoned creators will be presented with options outside of the norm. As well, information on printing options both large and small will be shown alongside examples of cooperative creator/distributor agreements for folks to utilize. Those looking to create a project as a part of a mutually beneficial co-op will have a couple of starting points and resources at their disposal.

De-Monopolization: Creating additional avenues of how projects are funded and spreading awareness of where projects can be found and financed will create a healthier community. The TTRPG community has always been a vast and inclusive space and it is important that it continues to be so. Reliance on a single funding site jeopardizes what projects receive spotlight and inevitably what creators receive funding.

Democratization: The indie TTRPG community is a global one and everyone should have a fair opportunity to have their ideas and creations shared, not just the financially successful ones. The hope is that those who are making zines or want to make zines will have an equal footing alongside everyone else.

I really highly recommend you to take a look through the Showcase page and see all the awesome projects and back those that interest you! Also, check in regularly as new projects are being added all the time.

SPACE SAMURAIS

Download Space Samurais!

I released my second game earlier this week on Itch.io and I’m pretty proud of this one.  If there is one thing you should know about myself, then it should be the fact I’m a huge, huge Star Wars nerd.  So, I just had to make a Star Wars inspired game, and I feel like Honey Heist’s rules system is a perfect fit for Light versus Dark side kind of conflicts.  The game is free with optional donation, so feel free to download and give this game a try!

SESSIONS OF THE WEEK

Woodfall/Cairn: Ran second session in this campaign and it went really well!  The group went on their first quest and traveled into the woods where they encountered a group of spiders with long jawed fangs.  They fought for a long time and eventually most of them got dragged by the spiders to a nearby cave where the spiders’ queen resides…. we shall find out what will happen next week!

Crapland/Troika: Troika! is one of my favorite systems to run, and someone put in a request to try out the system.  I decided to run Crapland because I was in mood for something different and easy to make 90s references.  The group went on a delivery run for a strange delivery company where the truck broke down and insisted on drinking Arizona Arnold Palmer’s Half and Half drink.  That led to bunch of shenanigans at a local convenience mart. The group managed to shut down the mart owner’s attempt to summon a giant head made of cans in the final battle, so they got back to the base and completed the mission!

WRAPPING UP

No new video this week because I’ve started working on reviewing bunch of RPG zines I’ve received for upcoming Zine Month, so I’ll have plenty of videos to release in next several weeks.  I can’t wait to share those with you, so keep an eye out for upcoming issues with some sick videos!

Cheers,

Root
